The perfect combination of traditional and contemporary revealed in this riverside kitchen…
When Tim and Caroline built their dream home, they wanted a contemporary kitchen that complemented a traditional environment with enough space to cater for their five grown-up children who had flown the nest but visited regularly.
Their five-bedroom, detached house with a river at the end of the garden has some Victorian-style exterior features and a combination of old and new inside with sandblasted, rustic beams a focal point. “We wanted a kitchen that had modern, clean lines and for it to fit into a more traditional environment. We also wanted to use the space as effectively as possible,” comments Caroline.
Growing up, the couple’s family kitchens had always been the hub of the home, which they were keen to replicate. They wanted bespoke kitchen cabinetry with a contemporary look but crafted with wood so that it could be repainted in the future. High on the wish list was an Aga and a high island area as “it’s great to hide away dishes”.
Having contacted myriad kitchen companies without satisfaction, the couple eventually chose Leisha Norma, kitchen designer for Harvey Jones.
